I first met Dr Farthing shortly after he came to Canterbury in the year 2000, when he was taking care of a close friend of mine and got her 'back on her feet'. At each visit he appeared smiling, happy and friendly in conversation, a very self-assured person with a positive outlook on life, and above all, fit and healthy. At that time I knew I needed a check-up but never made the time for myself and my health.

The first time I experienced a symptom of vertebral subluxation was about thirty years ago - cause unknown, but it left me 'flat on my back' and incapacitated for several weeks. My G.P. diagnosed a "slipped disc" and recommended painkillers together with exercises. The former advice I ignored, as I wasn't keen on taking chemical aids, but the latter I did, despite the resulting discomfort. Since then I have experienced several bouts of lower back pain lasting about one week, making everyday tasks difficult. In the last nine months I have had three episodes of back pain, each time more painful, taking longer to recover and increasingly affecting my everyday life.

So my husband finally persuaded me I needed to see someone. I knew it would be Dr Farthing. My friend assured me 'You won't regret it!'

Dr Farthing and his staff made me feel most welcome. My initial x-rays revealed six major subluxations, all severe and chronic with associated postural distortions. I was amazed - all this occurring without any other symptoms. My very active past had, obviously, taken its toll and something needed to be done. I was nervous about having adjustments to my spine but was immediately put at ease.

Four months down the line, with adjustments and exercises, I have greater freedom of movement in my spine, especially the neck. At my most recent re-exam and post x-ray, it revealed a 40% shift towards the optimum "C curve!". I can now garden and do all the activities that used to aggravate my back, pain free.

Yes, it has been a commitment, but completely worthwhile. And knowing Dr Farthing is a phone call away if necessary, is so reassuring.

I think I have always 'sympathised' with Dr Farthing's views on 'wellness' and health, but it needed a major symptom to convince me to take action, because without optimum health, your life can be so limited.
