Children of the Future
I have been a patient of preventative care, namely spinal health care since I was a baby (6 months old precisely).

The purpose of this article is to remind you to turn off those 'Nintendos' and 'Play Stations', and have your children take advantage of the sunshine. WHY??
The reason why is because PHYSICAL ACTIVITY STRENGTHENS CHILDREN'S BONES. Research has established that exercise increases bone development in teenagers. But what effects does exercise and minor physical activity have on the bones of children? A recent study published in 'Paediatrics' is one of the first to examine the effects of low-impact everyday activities on bone density in children.
The results were clear! High motion levels and physical activity ratings were associated with higher bone density and mineral content in both boys and girls. Greater hipbone content was found in the more active children. The findings suggested that children who watch more television and partake in little physical activity tended to have lower bone densities.
Therefore the more exercise, or even mild physical activity, the better!
So while the sun continues to shine, do the best for your children and send them outside in the garden and limit the number of hours in front of the 'box'. Not only will they be better off physically, but they will also benefit socially.
Both women and increasing numbers of men suffer from osteoporosis (reduced bone density). The greatest cause is the sedentary lifestyles that most people lead. So, by increasing your child's physical activity early on in life will be a great 'head start' in helping contribute to stronger bones in the future.
Poor posture is also occurring at a dangerously high rate amongst our children, so sending them outside stops them slouching in front of the TV screen.
If your child has not had a spine and posture health check, make sure you see your local Spinal Specialist because this might be the most important preventative health check they ever have.
