A good friend who was already attending the Ideal Spine Centre recommended that we contact Dr. Christian Farthing for a spinal assessment, as Michael was still experiencing a lot of severe back pain and headaches, despite having had several rounds of medical treatment. This ranged from facet block injections and epidurals to surgical intervention including the fusion of three vertebrae and insertion of screws .

I made the appointment for Michael and decided to make it a 'double appointment' as I was experiencing continual neck pain following a car accident 12 years before, where I experienced a strong whiplash injury. Neither Michael or I were able to turn our heads to either side. Reversing our car was solely reliant on using wing mirrors.

My assessment demonstrated that my neck was almost beyond repair as the vertebrae were misaligned and almost fused. When I went back for a review, Dr. Christian was delighted to inform me that the misalignment ('vertebral subluxation') was reducing.

With Michael, Dr. Christian said he would not be able to put right the damaged areas that had already been complicated and treated by surgery. However, he would be able to improve the overall quality of his life. At that point in time, Michael was only able to walk very short distances without pain, and was on a high intake of medication .

Over the last two years the physical benefits for both of us have been quite remarkable. Michael and I now have more mobile neck movements, less headaches and our general aches and pains have also reduced. Michael's medication intake has been halved, while his mobility has increased significantly. He can walk for much longer periods and has even played badminton since he began care.

The knowledge that we have gained through attending Dr. Christian's 'Half Hour to Health' workshops on spinal health care and wellness has been fundamental in dealing with our daily lives. Now we understand the many benefits of spinal health care, we actively pass on this knowledge through our own professions to colleagues and clients. This includes information on subluxation, nutrition, posture, the effects of medication, wellness care and the importance of a healthy spine and nervous system in relation to overall health.
