THE ASSOCIATION OF OSTEOMYOLOGISTS

Due to the disharmony within the chiropractic and osteopathic professions, a group of qualified health care professionals have formed a unique association whereby different Practitioners starting from various directions, have joined together with one ideal in mind - interchanging of treatment and protocoals to create the ultimate Therapist.

In the case of Dr. Farthing, he has supported such a movement as the individual who benefits is you, the member of the public. You are able to seek advice and help from a qualified health practitioner who interacts with other experts in their field.

The wording of our profession is Osteomyology or Neurosteomyology, which is a term defined either to mean the study of bone and muscle, or the study of the nervous system, bone and muscle. When put together as Osteomyology, it defines a method of safely treating and healing patients using many and varied safe protocols.

The Osteomyology Association has bought together disciplines discovered and refined by some of the world’s greatest manual medical practitioners and combined them to produce and mould to their own specific philosophy.

Osteomyology can experienced by anyone in the normal course of their life, and can bring help and comfort to patients suffering from a range of conditions. It does not necessarily mean that it is a cure for such conditions, but as a hands-on natural form of healing, can support and help an individual and can be coupled with other forms of treatment.

Osteomyologists are all trained to a high standard in the practices of manual medical disciplines, and before entry onto the Register is made official, their degree qualifications are rigorously checked. They all have, at least, one or more degree status qualifications which form the basic foundation of their Osteomyology entry. Their qualifications and current insurance status makes them Registered Osteomyologists. This means their names are entered onto an official roll and Register required by law for the use of their protected title 'Osteomyologist'.

Osteomyologists are governed and disciplined by a group of Committees which receive and investigate any complaints from the public and their peers. They are required to continue their professional training by attending CPD (continuing professional development). These are mandatory, and a required amount of hours are devoted to reflective practice and furthering their professional skills.

Osteomyology puts aside the usual ‘tunnel vision’ of rigidly trained philosophies. It allows the practitioner to switch seamlessly from one bodywork protocol to another and even combining some methods together. This way the practitioner is never defeated as his armoury is limitless. Dr. Clemens boasts that in his organization there exists some of the greatest innovators and exponents of the healing arts.

Osteomyology is not as most people are led to believe, a combination of other peoples’ favourite techniques, but a totally different protocol, a mingling and changing of the old, plus the new, to develop a form, up until now, undiscovered.

To quote an example: If one had been taught a method/technique, and then combined this teaching with other method/techniques, and possibly still yet another, together they form a totally different concept to their origins and the way of performing these methods, becomes in itself, unique to Osteomyologists, and in view of the success rating percentage our practitioners enjoy, is endorsed by speedy patient recovery. Dr. Clemens like other innovators could not have advanced his small Association to the point it is now without listening and being advised by other mentors/advisors, who he states are far more knowledgeable than him, and carry the same burning enthusiasm. His registrar Karen Harding is in her own right a well known soft tissue advisor and practitioner, coupled with a qualification in Cranial and sports therapy and has supported and worked ceaselessly for the Association thereby bringing it to the fore.

A large number of the Associations top practitioners are in daily contact with Dr. Clemens, constantly honing, suggesting, and polishing the Protocols, methodology and Osteomyology concepts. It is through this that the Association stays ahead and advances constantly. It has been suggested to Dr. Clemens that he used the name Osteomyology to sound like osteopathy or even a replacement for chiropractic. This he denies vehemently. First, Osteomyology was formed before the GOsC or the GCC was inaugurated. The original name had been Neurosteomyology, but had been found wanting as patients couldn’t pronounce it. Secondly, he would have little to gain by trying to emulate a body of which he is a registered member.

Unfortunately, the United Kingdom is far behind the rest of the world in relation to advances in wellness based health care. Osteopaths in the United States are considered to be second rate medical doctors as they are able to prescribe medicines. Chiropractic in the UK is going through some rapid changes and significant division within the profession. A small faction of the chiropractic profession wants chiropractic to be absorbed within the NHS as a modality of medicine, providing pain relief and ‘patch up care’. Unfortunately, this small minority also support the General Chiropractic Council and its mission. On the other hand, a larger portion of the chiropractic profession in the UK and around the world, think otherwise. A growing amount of principle based chiropractors are moving from their homeland to the UK to help try and save chiropractic like it is around the rest of the world…a wellness based system of health care that looks to correct the cause of health problems rather than just treat the illness.

The Association of Osteomyologists was formed back in 1992 as an umbrella organisation to bring together like minded Professional Practitioners who already hold qualifications of degree status and wished to have a higher level of expertise. Both the Registrar and Chairman had, as a concept, the joining together of groups of Professionals with similar ambitions in mind, that being, the exchanging of skills and inter-relating of treatment techniques, proven to be effective, individually, in their various practices.

Therefore, the Osteomyology Association is a force to create principle based change and improved health care for the benefit of the health professionals and most importantly, members of the public.

Dr. Farthing is a proud member and supporter of the work that Dr. Clemens has completed so far. There is much to do, but as a famous author by the name of Stephen Covey once said, “We must begin with the end in mind”.

That brings to mind a lovely quote that reminds us of what is possible by the coming together of a few great minds.

“Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.”

  • Margaret Mead
